Kaspersky Lab Reveals New Fraud Scheme in Russia

Kaspersky: Fraudsters increasingly create chats with fake managers

Fraudsters in Russia have come up with a new scheme to deceive citizens. Now, the attackers create group chats in instant messengers, adding fake accounts of managers to them, then they report an alleged inspection of the company, where the chat participants should wait for a call from the police, said Sergey Golovanov, chief expert at Kaspersky Lab, RIA Novosti reports.

“Now the attackers create a group chat where they add real employees of the organization and, probably, several fake accounts of managers,” he noted.

Victims may then be asked to transfer the organization’s money to some accounts, take out a loan in their name, or install certain software, Golovanov warned. According to the expert, the new type of attack can be dangerous, since the scammers not only refer to the victim’s professional activity, but can also potentially maintain a dialogue in the chat supposedly on behalf of colleagues.

“To avoid becoming a victim of such attacks, it is important for users to carefully double-check the information they receive even from acquaintances,” Golovanov advised.

Earlier, experts said that the vast majority of hackers in the world today speak Chinese, and the second most common language is Spanish. At the same time, Russian is only in fourth place.

Eugene Kaspersky warned that cybercriminals are becoming more professional and sophisticated every day.

Previously, experts said that public Wi-Fi can be infected with malware, so when connecting to it, you need to follow several rules.
