IDC: Tablet shipments up 22 percent to 34.4 million units
Global tablet shipments have increased, reaching pre-coronavirus levels, according to a report from International Data Corporation (IDC).
In the second quarter of 2024, experts recorded a 22 percent increase. In total, 34.4 million tablets were delivered to the world market during this period.
The industry leader was the American company Apple, which delivered 12.3 million devices to the market, receiving a share of 35.8 percent. Samsung and Lenovo remained in second and third positions – their shares amounted to 20.1 and 7.3 percent, respectively.
“We expect the refresh cycle and growth in emerging markets to continue to drive the recovery in the near term,” said Anurupa Nataraj, senior research analyst at IDC. According to the specialist, the favorable market situation motivates manufacturers to introduce innovations in their gadgets. As an example, Nataraj cited Apple, which released the first iPad with an OLED screen.
In early August, Izvestia sources reported that smartwatch sales in Russia had grown sharply from January to June 2024. Smartwatch sales grew by 14 percent in six months compared to the same period in 2023.
