Analyst Permyakov: Slowdown of smartphone performance may indicate infection
Slow operation of a smartphone, as well as its overheating and unauthorized changes to Wi-Fi and GPS settings, may indicate infection with malicious software (SW), Deputy Director of the Competence Center of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) Ruslan Permyakov told RIA Novosti.
“If your phone has become unusually slow, drains quickly, or overheats, this may be a sign of malicious activity,” he said. The analyst emphasized that changing smartphone settings without the user’s knowledge can also indicate a virus on the phone.
Permyakov added that signs of malware activity are also a large increase in the mobile phone bill and the appearance of new applications. He recommended regularly updating applications and the operating system, downloading programs only from trusted sources and periodically making a backup copy of the data.
Earlier, Kaspersky Lab experts identified a Trojan-type virus that was used to spy on Android users in Russia. The spyware gained access to users’ correspondence in instant messengers and social networks, as well as their contacts.
