Rodnina gave a one-sentence assessment of the US plans to denigrate Russian figure skaters and synchronized swimmers

Rodnina on US attempts to blacken Russian sports: throwing dirt in the face of the state

Three-time Olympic figure skating champion and State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina assessed the US plans to use information campaigns to denigrate the “most Russian” sports – figure skating, synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Rodnina expressed her opinion about the Americans’ attempts with the phrase “They are throwing dirt in the face of a great sports power”. She drew attention to the fact that domestic athletes have not competed in international competitions for two years and have not shown any results.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR RF) stated that the US had planned another stage of the campaign to isolate Russia in world sports. It was noted that this time the “most Russian” disciplines – rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming and figure skating – could come under attack. The US intends to slander athletes and coaches.

The curators of the project are the former heads of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory, Grigory Rodchenkov and Timofey Sobolevsky, who fled to the United States. It is emphasized that they receive information from coaches and doctors who prepare Russian athletes. They promise informants generous fees and relocation from Russia.
