Apple’s AI won’t work in Europe and China immediately after launch
Apple Inc. said it is working with regulators around the world to get permission to launch its own neural network, 9to5Mac reported.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said during a call with investors that Apple Intelligence, the neural network unveiled at WWDC 2024, will initially be available only in the United States. However, immediately after its launch in the fall, the set of artificial intelligence (AI) services will be available in other countries if you set the region to “United States” in the iPhone settings.
However, Apple Intelligence will not work in Europe and China. According to Cook, Apple will limit the neural network until it receives the appropriate permission from local regulators.
“We have to understand the regulatory requirements before we can commit to launching this system,” Tim Cook told investors.
Cook also said that at launch, the proprietary neural network will only work in English. The company intends to add other languages later “within a year.”
In late July, Bloomberg sources reported that Apple had to delay the launch of its artificial intelligence (AI) service for the iPhone. Apple Intelligence will likely launch in October, rather than September as previously planned.
