Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chip will speed up inexpensive Android smartphones
American company Qualcomm has introduced a new 5G processor for inexpensive smartphones. This was noted by the Android Central publication.
The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chip is a simplified version of the flagship Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, which was released in 2023. The new processor is designed for use in low-cost devices. According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 will bring full 5G connectivity to low-cost phones for the first time.
Media journalists noted that productive 5G models are usually found only in expensive Android smartphones. The new chip can provide gigabit internet access speeds — it supports download speeds of up to 2.5 gigabits per second. According to Qualcomm experts, this is seven times faster than smartphones with 4G support.
“The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 Mobile Platform is a significant step forward in making 5G more accessible,” said Chris Patrick, senior vice president of Qualcomm. The new processor also has eight cores, supports frequencies up to 2000 megahertz, and cameras with a resolution of up to 80 megapixels. The first smartphones based on the new chip will appear before the end of the year.
In early July, well-known insider Yogesh Brar predicted that new Android smartphones would be significantly more expensive than current models. The specialist linked this to the release of the expensive Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor.
