Attack on fiber optic networks. French police speak of new sabotage

The latest incident, according to a French police statement cited by , occurred on Monday, July 29, three days after coordinated acts that paralyzed high-speed trains hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris, disrupting travel for hundreds of thousands of people.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Monday that the services had initially identified several people who were supposed to be behind Friday’s sabotage of the national SNCF train network. He said that far-left circles were probably responsible for the destruction. The search for all the perpetrators is ongoing, reports .

Darmanin said the attacks on the TGV high-speed train in France were “deliberate, very precise and extremely well-aimed”. “This is a traditional type of ultra-left action,” he added. He went on to emphasize that it remains an open question whether the saboteurs “could have been manipulated” or “acted for their own benefit.”
