In one of the posts, among other things, false information about alleged photos of the attacker was corrected. “These are photos of user X published as part of an attempt at incomprehensible ‘trolling’. A video recording allegedly showing the shooter also appeared. This is also #FakeNews. This is exactly the same trolling user X who has already deleted the recording, which is still being shared. This is not a real message from the attacker!” – explains Demagog. In subsequent posts, fact-checkers indicated that some of them had been edited before being posted online.
Foreign analysts and cybersecurity experts also warn against spreading conspiracy theories. One of them explained in why the improbable scenarios have appeared in the first place. “With any rapidly evolving event, there is inevitably a large influx of false or unverified information, especially on social media,” said Graham Brookie, senior director of the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab.
