Coach Cherchesov on working in the Kazakhstan national team: serfdom has been abolished

The head coach of the Kazakhstan national team, Stanislav Cherchesov, explained the work outside of Russia. His words are quoted by Sport Day by Day.

The specialist explained his decision with the phrase “serfdom was abolished in 1861”. He stated that he wanted to work in a Russian-speaking environment, so he accepted the Kazakhs’ offer. Cherchesov emphasized that there is currently no work in Russian clubs.

On June 3, it was announced that Cherchesov had been appointed head coach of the Kazakhstan national team. The length of the contract and financial terms were not disclosed.

Cherchesov’s previous place of work was the Hungarian Ferencvaros, with whom he won the championship twice and the national Cup. The coach left the club from Budapest in the summer of 2023.

From 2016 to 2021, Cherchesov was the head coach of the Russian national team. Together with him, the team reached the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Cup at home.
