The government has 15,000 laptops to give away because PiS bought too many. The equipment will be available for winning in a contest

– About 15 thousand thousand devices from the “Laptop for Students” program, which the previous government ordered too many, have returned to warehouses – Mr. Marek Gieorgica, director of the communication office of the Ministry of Digital Affairs. The laptops will not be able to be passed on, because, as the representative of the ministry says, the previous government did not provide for this in the act. He added that the draft amendments that will make this possible have already been entered into the list of legislative works.

Marek Gieorgica emphasized, however, that there are too few devices to support all IT classes in the country.

That is why, together with the Ministry of National Education, we propose to hold competitions for this equipment.

– he declared. The details of the competition are to be developed by the Ministry of Education. Gieorgica also revealed that the closing of the legislative process, which will allow for the distribution of the overdue laptops, is planned for the fourth quarter of this year.

“Laptop for students” will replace “Digital students”

Laptops cannot be distributed in a simple way also because the government has terminated the “Laptop for Students” program. Instead, work is underway on the “Digital Student” project. The previous Minister of Digital Affairs, Janusz Cieszyński, reminded us of this on Monday at X. “Do you remember the ‘Digital Student’ program? It was supposed to replace the ‘Laptop for Students’ program, and Barbara Nowacka was supposed to present the assumptions in June. But they lied and will simply take away the laptops, and there is no alternative,” wrote the PiS politician.

Only after Cieszyński’s publication did the “Puls Biznesu” publication appear on the laptop competition, followed by Marek Gieorgica’s statement on TVN24. It is therefore difficult to assess whether the information about the equipment was the government’s reaction to Cieszyński’s words, or whether the PiS member simply missed the truth. Piotr Mieczkowski, who cooperates with the government, however, pointed out to the politician that he was simply “lying”.

The “Digital Student” program was originally supposed to come into effect in September 2025. However, it is not known at what stage the work on the program is. gave an evasive answer about the EU’s co-financing of the purchase of laptops. More was revealed by Marek Gieorgica, who explained on TVN24 that the program will consist of two components: competence and hardware. – We already know that the devices in the new program are not only laptops, but they can be other mobile devices, for example tablets – he indicated.
