Xiaomi’s Foldable Smartphones Will Be Created by Robots

PhoneArena: Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 and Mix Flip smartphones will be assembled by robots

The Chinese corporation Xiaomi has announced the launch of a fully automated smartphone production line, PhoneArena reports.

In a post on Weibo, Xiaomi announced that the production of the new foldable smartphones will be fully automated. The company noted that the phones will be assembled in a “next-generation smart smartphone factory.” The first devices to be “100 percent robot-made” will be the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 and Mix Flip.

Representatives explained that all production processes at the plant were automated using artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalization. The factory is controlled by a computer that defines tasks, identifies and solves problems. The automated system also handles the procurement and delivery of raw materials. Apparently, there are no regular assembly specialists on the production line.

Xiaomi said in a statement that the production of new smartphones at the smart factory will begin in July. According to rumors, the Xiaomi Mix Flip will receive a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and a triple camera. The Mix Fold 4 model will come with a camera that will have four lenses.

At the end of June, journalists from The Information reported that Apple would replace a significant number of employees involved in assembling iPhones with robots. This would also simplify the likely transfer of Apple’s production lines from China.
