Boeing Company to Admit Guilt: Air Crashes

The U.S. Justice Department says aerospace giant Boeing will plead guilty to criminal fraud charges related to two 737 Max crashes.

the U.S. government has determined that Boeing deceived regulators in inspections of the planes and in training requirements for their pilots. The aerospace giant will sign a special agreement under which it will admit all wrongdoing and avoid a lawsuit.

Boeing could choose between pleading guilty or going to trial on charges of defrauding the U.S. government.

A federal court in Texas has not yet approved the deal, which calls for Boeing to pay a fine of more than $243 million and invest at least $455 million to strengthen the safety and compliance programs of its planes.

The Justice Department says it will appoint an outside investigator to oversee the company’s activities and publicly report to the court on Boeing’s annual progress.

The company may have difficulty in establishing new contracts. All because of disasters

By signing an agreement admitting guilt over the deadly crashes, Boeing will face additional consequences, including difficulties in obtaining new government contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA.

The Department of Justice reminds that the agreement drawn up concerns only and exclusively Boeing’s misconduct in the case of the disasters that occurred in Indonesia in 2018 and in Ethiopia in 2019. A total of 346 passengers and crew members of 737 Max aircraft died in those crashes. The families of the victims announced that they intend to ask the court to reject the agreement.
