Coach explains termination of work with Russian figure skater with phrase about circus

Coach Linichuk on ending work with Angelopol: I don’t participate in a cheap circus

Olympic champion in ice dancing, coach Natalia Linichuk explained the end of her work with Russian figure skater Valery Angelopol. She is quoted by RIA Novosti.

“I will not work with Valery anymore. I do not participate in scandals and cheap circus, if you are worth something – prove it in training and competitions,” Linichuk said. According to her, the figure skater wanted to become a leader without effort and daily training. She noted that she suggested that the athlete turn to psychologists, but Angelopol refused.

Linichuk coached Angelopol and his partner Alexandra Shinkarenko. The tandem was formed in January 2024 and trained at the academy of two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko. At the end of June, it became known that the duo had broken up.

In August 2023, Angelopol left his other partner Vasilisa Kaganovskaya. The reason was the athlete’s refusal to sign the contract he offered and take full support from him. The dance couple’s coach, Anzhelika Krylova, took Kaganovskaya’s side and also refused to continue cooperation under such conditions.
