The device will receive an infrared camera similar to the one used as part of the Face ID biometric module in the iPhone and iPad. Apple’s plans to launch AirPods with a camera were first reported by Bloomberg sources in February.

Ming-Chi Ko specified that the infrared camera in the headphones will be necessary for integrating the headset with the Vision Pro augmented and virtual reality helmet. The wearable audio device will also be able to work with other Apple devices focused on AR and VR.

As an example, the insider cited a situation in which the user turns his head during an augmented reality session. At this time, the sound in AirPods also changes to create more realism. Ko also believes that the camera in the headphones will allow you to control the headset with gestures.
