Android Central: Sony will sharply reduce the number of games released for PlayStation VR 2

Sony Corporation has sharply reduced budgets for the development and support of the PlayStation VR 2 virtual reality headset. Android Central sources learned about this.

Those familiar with the company’s plans said that Sony has significantly reduced funding for the development and production of virtual reality games. First of all, this decision will affect the PlayStation VR 2 helmet, for which noticeably fewer new games will be released.

Another Sony source said there are only two VR games currently in development. “Given the state of the gaming industry with constant layoffs and studio closures, I’m not entirely sure that even these games will ever see the light of day,” commented the publication’s journalist Nicholas Sutrich.

The material says that at the moment there are not many games for the new virtual reality helmet. Thus, for the entire 2023, Sony released only three games for PlayStation VR 2. At the same time, after the release of the Firewall Ultra title, its developer, First Contact Entertainment, closed down.

“This is a sad and disappointing story that could have ended much better,” concluded Android Central journalists. The cost of the PS VR2 headset, introduced in February 2023, is $550, or about 47 thousand rubles.

At the beginning of June, Sony introduced an adapter for the PlayStation VR 2 headset for PC. The $60 accessory allows you to run VR games on your computer.
