Islam Makhachev spoke out in defense of Islam against the backdrop of events in Dagestan
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Islam Makhachev spoke out in defense of Islam against the backdrop of the events that took place in Dagestan. The athlete spoke out on his Instagram (social network banned in Russia; belongs to the Meta company, recognized as an extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).
The Russian stressed that the religion of Islam prohibits violence against innocent people. “Nothing gives the right to take people’s lives, damage property, peace and personal integrity. Don’t connect these inhumane antics with a wonderful religion,” Makhachev wrote.
On Sunday, June 23, militants attacked Makhachkala and Derbent. Against the backdrop of terrorist attacks that killed more than 15 people, a counter-terrorism operation (CTO) regime was introduced in Dagestan.
On June 2, Makhachev defeated American Dustin Poirier in the main bout of UFC 302. The Russian won by submission in the fifth round and defended the UFC lightweight champion title for the third time. 32-year-old Makhachev won the 26th victory of his career with only one defeat.
