Margarita del Val’s forecast on the sixth wave of the omicron variant of the coronavirus: “One month left”

The virologist of the CSIC Margarita del Val has predicted a month of rising infections in this sixth wave of coronavirus by the omicron variant until the cases begin to stabilize and decrease.

In an interview in Onda Vasca, the scientist has assured that this wave “seeing that it is higher than the summer wave, they are scaring us and we probably have a month of increasing cases because It happened last year and I don’t think we’re going to take stricter measures That the last year”.

In this sense, Del Val has downplayed the appearance of omicron when talking about the effects of the sixth wave. “Before we got to omicron we had infections. We started with Black Friday, the Constitution bridge, Christmas shopping …”.

In addition, the expert also wanted to rule out an assertion that is being made about the severity or lightness of this disease. “Ómicron is not milder and causes illnesses just as severe in vaccinated and as severe in unvaccinated as it would cause delta.”
