Apple for the first time outlined the lifespan of the iPhone

Apple guaranteed iPhone updates for five years

For the first time, Apple has disclosed information about how long it supports smartphones with updates. Android Authority drew attention to this.

The company had to report this due to the UK’s Product Safety and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) regulation, which applies to all Internet-enabled gadgets. Information has appeared on Apple’s website that the brand’s current smartphone, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, has five years of update support.

Thus, iPhone 15 smartphones will receive updates until 2028 – the lifespan of the devices is counted from the moment they go on sale, from September 22, 2023. According to media journalists, this is the first known case when Apple officially guarantees that it will support its devices for five years.

Android Authority journalists have noticed that some Android smartphone manufacturers promise longer update support than Apple. Thus, for a number of Samsung and Google devices, updates are released within seven years from the date the smartphones go on sale.

Media authors also admitted that Apple has been consistently releasing updates for the iPhone for at least five years. In addition, many older phones receive emergency security patches even 5-10 years after release.

At the beginning of June, Samsung Corporation declared a number of branded smartphones obsolete. Samsung Galaxy A51, A41 and M01, which were released in 2020, have stopped sending updates.
