A Polish company is introducing a revolution. Just one look and you’ve paid

A team of experts from various fields has been working on this technology since 2019. It’s about payments using eye biometrics and face scans. This is the first such solution in Europe. The Polish company has obtained all the necessary safety certificates and is putting the idea into action.

The Wrocław-based company PayEye, in cooperation with Mastercard, is piloting payments using iris biometrics and face scans. This is the first solution of this type in Europe. Special terminals where you can pay with one glance will be available from June 12 in five Empik stores.

Payments via eye biometrics and facial scan. PayEye ensures that the technology is safe

According to the representatives of the Polish company, the technology they have developed is unique and safe. – There is no way for someone to pay with any mask, photo or artificial eyeball, because there are special sensors, artificial intelligence and algorithms that can only react to our real, living face and eye – explains Daniel Jarząb, president of the Wrocław-based fintech PayEye.

Before implementing this technology, the company received all the necessary safety certificates. The iris and face scan will be stored in the form of an encrypted token on servers located in Poland.

Over 120 specialists were involved in the work on the project of the Wrocław-based company

A team of specialists has been working on the project regarding payments using eye biometrics since 2019. At its peak, over 120 experts from various fields were involved in the work. The president of PayEye explains that after identifying a given customer, the remaining part of the transaction will take place traditionally, i.e. payment by card. To use this solution, you will need to install the PayEye application, in which you will need to “connect” your Mastercard card.

During the first payment at the terminal, the customer will have to confirm the phone number and provide the PIN. Then a special device will scan the iris and face. During subsequent payments, all the customer needs to do is look at the reader and, after successful calibration, the payment will be made. Empik stores equipped with a glance payment terminal will initially be located in Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Wrocław and Czeladź. PayEye intends to introduce its solution in the stores of other companies in Poland.
