Expert Savchenko: leaving a smartphone under the pillow and charging it in a thunderstorm is dangerous

Vice-Rector for Digital Development and Information Technologies of the State University of Education Vitaly Savchenko named dangerous ways to charge a smartphone. Savchenko spoke about this in a conversation with Life.ru

According to the expert, it is extremely dangerous to leave the device connected to the electrical network, placing it under the pillow. “In case of severe overheating, the battery may ignite, which poses a serious threat to health and life,” Savchenko noted. The specialist emphasized that the pillows are made of flammable materials, and therefore burn well.

The expert also warned against charging your phone during a thunderstorm. “Lightning can cause voltage surges in the electrical network, which can damage the charger and the smartphone itself,” said Vitaly Savchenko.

When charging at very low temperatures, battery chemistry slows down, resulting in reduced battery capacity and performance. Also, when moving the device from a cold room to a warm one, condensation may form that is harmful to the gadget.

At the end of May, Canalys said that manufacturers of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled smartphones will need to address the privacy issue. It is also extremely important how telecom operators will handle users’ personal data.
