Apple began destroying old iPhones to speed up their recycling
Apple has announced a new robot for recycling smartphones. This was reported by TechCrunch.
Journalists visiting one of Apple’s American plants in Austin, Texas, got acquainted with robots that recycle old iPhones. In particular, media authors were shown the updated Daisy robot, which can completely disassemble a smartphone in 18 seconds.
The material states that previously, robots carefully disassembled used iPhones into pieces so that the components of the smartphone could be reused. Now Apple’s policy has changed, which is why robots have begun to destroy gadgets, literally tearing devices apart and dividing them into components.
The company explained that previously the company used screens, motherboards and other parts to assemble refurbished smartphones. Now old iPhones do not become donors for parts – they are destroyed, and then the metals are sent for melting down.
“Tearing up a phone is much faster, and although the result is much less pleasant, no one cares what discarded smartphones look like,” TechCrunch journalists concluded.
Earlier, TrendForce analysts said that technical difficulties do not allow Apple to release its first folding phone. Insiders noted that the company cannot solve the problem of wrinkles on the device’s display.
