MacRumors: Apple placed iPhone 5s on the list of obsolete smartphones
Apple has declared the iPhone 5s, released in 2013, obsolete. MacRumors drew attention to this.
According to the company’s policy, products are considered obsolete if seven or more years have passed since they were no longer sold. The iPhone 5s on this list became the first Apple smartphone to have a fingerprint scanner built into the Home button. In addition, it came with a 64-bit A7 chip – a first in iPhone history.
The company also recognized the sixth generation iPod touch, released at the end of 2015, and the 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display as obsolete gadgets. Once devices are considered obsolete, Apple Stores and Apple Partners will no longer offer service or repair for products.
The Touch ID fingerprint sensor was used in Apple’s flagship smartphones until 2017, when the company introduced the iPhone X with a biometric sensor and a “monobrow.” Touch ID is still used in some tablets and the iPhone SE line, the last of which arrived in 2022.
At the beginning of April, Apple added the iPhone 6 Plus smartphone to the list of obsolete devices. However, the base iPhone 6 model has still not been included in the list of vintage devices.
