– The PESEL reservation is a chance for every citizen not to be exposed to fraud of money collected in the bank – said Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski. The Minister of Digital Affairs once again encouraged Poles to take advantage of this opportunity.
Poles en masse reserve their PESEL numbers
Since June 1, regulations have been in force under which a loan taken out using a restricted PESEL number does not have to be repaid by the person whose number was used to enter into a financial obligation. Before granting a loan, banks and notaries are obliged to check whether a given PESEL number is in the database of restricted numbers.
The regulations are intended to reduce the number of identity thefts, increase citizens’ security and protect them against fraudsters trying to obtain a loan or make an installment purchase using someone else’s data. – Over three million citizens have reserved their PESEL number. Half a million Poles have done so in the last few days – Gawkowski provided data after only three days of this option.
How to block your PESEL number? Just a few clicks
Restricting your PESEL number is very simple and takes only a few seconds. This can be done in the mObywatel application or on the website mobywatel.gov.pl via Zaufany Profil, as well as in person at any commune office. Just select the “Reserve PESEL” option and follow the instructions. – This way we will be safer – said the head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs at a conference at the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior and Administration.
Before submitting an application for a loan, loan or bank account, you must withdraw your PESEL reservation. Otherwise, the bank will refuse to conclude the contract.
