TechRadar: iPhone display will self-repair from damage
Apple has patented a technology to create a display for “eternal” flexible screens. TechRadar drew attention to this.
The invention was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The description says that the flexible screen will consist of several rigid layers and an additional movable layer. Apple engineers clarified that it will recover on its own after being damaged.
The company did not disclose how exactly the recovery technology works. However, the authors of the document talked about an elastomer layer that can stretch and return to its original shape. Several use cases are described: either the elastomer layer will cover the entire space of the screen, or only the bendable part that is deformed when folded.
The inventors also said that the display will be restored without user interaction. Journalists suggested that this would happen under the influence of certain temperatures, sunlight, or while the screen is folded.
Earlier, analyst Jeff Pu said that Apple planned to release the first devices with a folding display. The first such device will be a folding tablet, which will be released in 2025.
