Apple was accused of making money “on blood”

Reuters: Apple was suspected of buying smuggled materials from the Congo

The American company Apple was suspected of purchasing smuggled materials from the Congo. Reuters reports this.

In late April, an international legal team said Apple was acquiring fossil materials from war-torn areas of the Congo. A month later, lawyers representing the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo noted that they had new information about Apple’s supply chain in the region.

Critics of the IT giant believe that the company acquires valuable materials for creating gadgets from illegal and criminal organizations through smuggling. International lawyers called this approach “buying up bloody minerals.” Accusations of Apple making money through dishonest means are also being investigated by the law firm Amsterdam & Partners LLP.

Amsterdam & Partners LLP spokesman Peter Sahlas told Reuters that “the experts will have something to say once we have completed our due diligence.” The company also emphasized that Apple did not respond to the complaints made against it.

Previously, Apple has repeatedly stated that it does not purchase materials for its gadgets directly, but conducts an audit of its suppliers. The 2023 report stated that 100 percent of partner companies were thoroughly vetted.

At the beginning of May, Apple confirmed that iPad tablets will be able to install applications bypassing the App Store. Previously, alternative stores were added to the iPhone.
