Pensions were supposed to be a revolution, but “all workshops were suspended.” What’s going on?

The future of Central Pensions Information (CIE) is uncertain. The system that is supposed to help determine the amount of pensions was supposed to be created in 2025, but the government project is delayed.

– We have four years to do something that should give us a seal to say in 2027 that the leader of digital transformations is in this Central European part of Europe, the part that can show the best examples to the European Union – 2023, Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski . However, the following months pass and little is happening regarding one of the largest digitalization projects.

Central Pension Information. Media: The project has slowed down

We are talking about the Central Pension Information (CIE). To put it very simply, it is intended to be a system that allows users to quickly access information regarding both the status of their retirement savings and estimates of the amount of future benefits. It is to contain data on the ZUS and KRUS systems, information on Employee Capital Plans (PPK), Employee Pension Programs and the private individual pillar. Similar solutions already exist in Sweden, the Netherlands and Great Britain.

In Poland, CIE was supposed to start operating in 2025. Just before the elections, on October 5, the act establishing the system was signed by Andrzej Duda. It seemed that after obtaining the president’s signature, the project would only accelerate, but instead it slowed down. learned that the Ministry of Digitization had frozen work. “Since December 13, despite the readiness to act by, among others, PFR, nothing specific has happened regarding CIE. All workshops have been suspended and there are already first delays,” we read. The Polish Development Fund, which is responsible for the IT part of the project, confirmed that “some activities” are being carried out on its side. However, no further details were revealed.

The CIE system divided the Left and the Civic Coalition from the beginning

The idea of the Central Pension Information itself was created during the rule of Law and Justice. The opposition at that time was skeptical about him from the beginning. Grzegorz Napieralski, an MP from the Civic Coalition, said in an interview with “” that “this is yet another spending of public money on an unnecessary project” because “the government wants to justify spending millions of dollars on salaries.”

Not all opposition politicians had this opinion. Among the people who looked favorably on the project was the current Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski. – The Central Pension Information in Poland works, but it is broken. There is ZUS, KRUS, OFE, PPK and so on. They work and we pay for them all. Now we have to put it together to pay less. Modernization of systems is needed so that retirees have knowledge about how many resources they have – he said in an interview with “Fakt”. That’s why it’s all the more puzzling why the project came to a standstill.
