Altindex: Samsung has sold almost three billion smartphones in 10 years

Samsung has shipped nearly three billion smartphones to the market in a decade, outpacing other manufacturers. This was reported in a report by the Altindex agency.

Experts collected data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) over the past ten years and named the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. It turned out to be Samsung. Since 2014, the South Korean corporation has shipped 2.937 billion smartphones to the market. In second position was Apple, which produced 2.203 billion iPhones.

Below are Chinese companies: Xiaomi – 1.147 billion units, Huawei – 1.057 billion, Oppo – 911.9 million, Vivo – 526.6 million. According to analysts, Samsung launched and sold 33 percent more devices than Apple and more than Xiaomi, Huawei and Vivo combined.

The authors of the report called 2015 the most successful year for Samsung, when the corporation shipped 320.9 million phones to retailers. By 2023, this figure has dropped to 286.6 million units. Apple sold the most devices in 2021, with 234.9 million gadgets.

In conclusion, Altindex noted that despite Samsung’s success, its market share has declined by ten percent over the decade, while Apple’s share has grown by two percent over the same period.

At the beginning of May, Counterpoint Research analysts spoke about the results of the first quarter of 2024 in the global smartphone market. Thus, the best-selling phone was the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
