In the US, Apple Watch was called suitable for detecting atrial fibrillation
The American regulator has approved Apple watches as a gadget for detecting atrial fibrillation. This was reported by MacRumors.
The corresponding decision after the tests was made by specialists from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Experts said Apple watches are suitable for detecting and assessing atrial fibrillation in consumers.
According to media journalists, this way the Apple watch was actually recognized as a medical device. The authors noted that this is the first such medical function in a watch that has been identified by US authorities as suitable for medical research.
The atrial fibrillation history feature is coming to Apple Watches in 2022. It analyzes heart rate data to detect atrial fibrillation. Representatives of the corporation noted that the technology works correctly for users over 22 years of age who have been diagnosed with arrhythmia or other heart disorders.
The FDA emphasized that the Apple Watch can be used for non-invasive heart analysis and health assessment. They can also be used in clinical testing of a patient.
In early April, Apple asked the US Court of Appeal to lift the ban on the supply and sale of the brand’s smartwatches. Previously, sales of the devices were prohibited due to patent infringement on the function of determining blood oxygen saturation levels.
