The Register: Huawei plans to distribute HarmonyOS worldwide

Huawei has planned to expand its operating system beyond China. This was reported by The Register.

According to media specialists, the company is thinking about distributing its OS for gadgets around the world – literally, Huawei dreams of world domination in the software market for smartphones. “We will work hard to build the HarmonyOS app ecosystem first in the Chinese market, and then, from country to country, we will gradually begin to promote it to other parts of the world,” Huawei Chairman Eric Xu said at a regular corporate conference.

Journalists from The Register said that the company took five thousand applications to which users from China devote 99 percent of their time. Xu noted that Huawei has already transferred four thousand applications to HarmomyOS, and in 2024 the company intends to adapt the remaining thousand programs to the OS.

In order for this or that application to appear in the HarmonyOS store, Huawei attracts and sponsors developers. Eric Xu also noted that in the future the number of applications in the Huawei brand store will reach one million.

In conclusion, the authors of the publication noted that Huawei plans to make HarmonyOS at least the third most popular operating system in the world – after iOS and Android.

At the end of April, Counterpoint Research specialists recorded a sharp drop in iPhone sales in China. One of the reasons was the success of local brands, primarily Huawei.
