PC backlighting turns out to be dangerous for video cards

Videocardz: RGB lighting on a gaming PC can burn through the video card case

Reddit users complained about their computer’s backlight causing damage to their graphics card. Journalists from Videocardz drew attention to this.

The authors noticed that two similar posts appeared on Reddit almost simultaneously. In the first, the author said that the backlight of a gaming PC burned through the video card case, and attached a corresponding photo. In the second, a site visitor stated that he encountered the same problem.

Videocardz specialists analyzed the publications and noted that RGB lighting on computers can indeed be dangerous. This is because some models are equipped with high color rendering index (CRI) lamps, which can generate light in the ultraviolet spectrum in the range of 375 to 400 nanometers.

According to journalists, it is unclear whether the damage was caused directly by the rays or by heat from the lamps. The authors suggested that if the backlight harmed computer components due to increased heat, then there would be more complaints online.

At the beginning of April, Apple updated the App Store rules, allowing the publication of game emulators on the site. Game emulators can only be published for users from EU countries; they will not be available to the rest of the world.
