Millions of Americans were interested in the solar eclipse. Now many of them are looking for answers to one question on the Internet.

Millions of Americans watched a spectacular solar eclipse on Monday, April 8. However, as it turns out, some US residents observed this unusual phenomenon incorrectly. Everything was revealed by queries entered in the Google browser.

After the solar eclipse, Americans searched their browsers for answers to the question: “Why do my eyes hurt?” The increase in inquiries clearly coincided with the solar eclipse. Charts showing the increased interest in this topic can be found on social media.

American media previously urged people to watch the solar eclipse only with appropriate eye protection. recalls how on August 21, 2017, then US President Donald Trump, together with Melania Trump and his son Barron, went out to the balcony of the White House and then looked straight at the Sun several times. Only then did Trump put on protective glasses.

A short educational video was posted by current US President Joe Biden on Monday. He urged Americans to take care of their eyes and watch the solar eclipse wearing protective glasses.

Total solar eclipse in the USA

The solar eclipse was visible across most of the United States. For millions of people in the United States, it was the first opportunity in their lives to be in the shadow of the Moon. Applause and shouts of delight were heard in subsequent places along the path of the total solar eclipse. It ran through 15 states – from Texas to Maine. Even where the moon only partially covered the sun, it was an extraordinary experience.

– It’s getting darker and I’m looking at two objects millions of kilometers apart, in one line. It’s wonderful – enthused the resident of Washington, where the sun was obscured by 89%. In the US capital, as in almost all American cities and towns, thousands of people took to the streets and gathered in parks to watch the eclipse together. – It’s great that the Moon is between us and the Sun at this moment. At this moment, I think of myself as a small speck in a huge universe, another resident of the capital told Polish Radio.
