The Elec: Apple suppliers failed to provide thin screen bezels for iPhone 16

Apple’s manufacturing partners were unable to produce the display for iPhone 16 that the company demanded. This became known to sources of the Korean publication The Elec.

It is reported that when creating iPhone 16 smartphones, which are expected to be released in the fall, Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology will be used. Thanks to BRS, the device will receive an OLED display with record thin side frames. However, Apple’s partners were unable to provide similar quality front panels.

Insiders found out that LG Display and Samsung Display reported difficulties encountered when designing new screens. To achieve the thinnest possible frames, the wires leading from the motherboard to the front panel must be bent. Apple’s Korean partners were able to create test samples of screens, but the companies were unable to scale production.

This is not the first problem that engineers encountered when creating the iPhone 16. In March, insiders reported that due to the new BRS method, OLED screens began to heat up too much during operation, but this flaw was eliminated.

Apple previously filed a lawsuit against a former employee, accusing him of leaking confidential information. The company believes that the engineer has been disclosing secret data to journalist acquaintances for years.
