Bloomberg: Apple will begin updating iOS on iPhones without taking them out of the boxes

Apple has started using a new feature in its stores to update the firmware of smartphones. Bloomberg reports this.

According to columnist Mark Gurman, Apple was faced with the task of creating a tool that would allow iOS to be updated on sealed iPhones right in the store. Gurman explained that in this way the buyer would receive a device with the current version of the operating system.

The specialist said that Apple has learned to update the iPhone directly in a sealed box. To do this, the device must be placed on a platform resembling a shoe box. The device then connects to the smartphone via MagSafe, charges the phone and transmits the update. After this, the device automatically turns off.

Mark Gurman noted that the new system was called Apple Presto, it began to be tested at the end of 2023 and will be put into operation in April. The first time Gurman talked about the system was in October.

At the end of March, Apple responded to the antitrust lawsuit of the US Department of Justice. Representatives of the IT giant noted that the American authorities want to “transform” the iPhone into an Android smartphone.
