IDC: PC shipments fall nine percent in 2023 due to pandemic and inflation

Specialists from the analytical company International Data Corporation (IDC) named the reasons for the decline in computer supplies in 2023. This is reported in a study on the organization’s website.

The firm’s current report states that PC sales fell nine percent in 2023. At the same time, the most significant decrease occurred in the first half of the year, and in the fourth quarter of 2023, supplies stabilized and even increased by 6.1 percent.

Experts named inflation and the COVID-19 pandemic as the main reasons for the current situation in the market. The authors explained that in 2020 and beyond, computer manufacturers shipped a huge number of devices to the market due to shortages.

IDC analysts predicted that the PC market will grow due to the need for upgrades amid the end of support for Windows 10, the release of new processors and the spread of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

Dell became the market leader in 2023. Below are HP, Lenovo, NEC and ASUS.

In early January, Canalys said that in 2024, every fifth PC on the market will have built-in AI support. Almost 60 percent of PCs with AI will be released for organizations and businesses.
