According to the latest report by Check Point Services, the pro-Russian hacktivist group has again carried out a series of DDoS attacks on Polish companies. This is alleged to be retaliation for the support our country has been providing for months to Ukraine, which is fighting the Russian attack.
This time, the target of the attacks was the Polish transport sector, including Autostrada Wielkopolska, Gdańsk Transport Center and e-TOLL (a road toll system in Poland). According to the report, the wave of attacks also covered the Czech Republic, Belgium and France.
Hacktivist groups are trying to use cyberspace as another battlefield, so organizations must be especially careful and use the best security and preventive solutions. Otherwise, there will be more and more similar attacks
– notes Wojciech Głażewski, director of Check Point Software Technologies in Poland.
DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attacks involve bombarding the target with as many queries as possible (e.g. attempts to open a website) at the same time. If this number is large enough, the victim’s infrastructure will be overwhelmed and eventually fail.
NoName057(16) is, next to APT, probably the most famous group of hacktivists linked to the Kremlin. He likes to brag about his attacks via the Telegram platform, where he has over 6,000 followers on his English-language channel and over 61,000. on the main Russian-language channel. As Check Point Services explains, NoName has even created an online community whose members can join DDoS attacks. They are often rewarded for such help.
A cyber war has been going on in cyberspace for a long time, accompanying the conflict in Ukraine. Recently, we can see that Polish companies are currently facing approximately 1,050-1,150 cyberattacks per week. Therefore, it is important not to underestimate the threats and use the best security technologies available
– adds Wojciech Głażewski.
Poland “the most attacked country in the world”. But there is also good news
that in recent months, Poland has become one of the favorite targets of pro-Russian hackers. Our country is expected to experience up to 1,000 serious cyberattacks a week, and the favorite method used by cybercriminals are DDoS attacks.
Our analysts, based on data from partners, have defined and noticed that – when it comes to one of the types of attacks, the so-called DDoS attack – recent weeks indicate that we are the most attacked country in the world
– he explained at the beginning of February this year. Major General Karol Molenda, commander of the Cyberspace Defense Component, in an interview with Wirtualna Polska.
x, which measures the level of cybersecurity in a given country. Poland scored 91 points out of 100 and was ahead of countries such as Australia, Estonia, Ukraine, Latvia, Cyprus and Great Britain.
Poland ranks first in the National Cyber Security Index ranking, which measures the country’s level of cybersecurity, its readiness to prevent cyber threats and its readiness to manage #cyber incidents, crime and large-scale crises.
– wrote on the official profile on the website of the 10th Cyberspace Defense Forces, a specialized component of the Polish Armed Forces created in 2022.
The fact that Poland copes exceptionally well with cyber threats is also proven by the report “The Cyber Defense Index” published by the prestigious magazine “MIT Technology Review”. In last year’s edition of the ranking, we placed sixth in the world.
