National Health Fund warns patients. Beware of “drug vouchers”. You may lose money

The National Health Fund issued a warning to patients. This concerns information appearing in social media about alleged drug vouchers or gift cards to pharmacies, which are allegedly issued by the National Health Fund. This is a scam and an attempt to extort money.

For several weeks, information has been appearing online about drug vouchers or gift cards for pharmacies, which are allegedly issued by the National Health Fund. The content of the advertisements shows that in order to receive a card worth e.g. PLN 2,000, it is enough to pay a few euros of tax and confirm the data in the survey.

We warn you, this is a scam and an attempt to extort data and money!

– informs the National Health Fund.

The National Health Fund warns patients that it never issues any gift cards or vouchers. “Do not click on the link that appears with information about alleged vouchers from the National Health Fund. You may lose money,” we read in the published message.

At the same time, the National Health Fund encourages patients who have any doubts and are afraid that they may have fallen victim to fraudsters to contact the free 24-hour hotline 800 190 590 or to notify the nearest police unit about this fact.

The “NFZ vouchers” scam is, of course, another textbook example of phishing. Unfortunately, in this case it is aimed primarily at older people, a group that is statistically most vulnerable to this type of fraud. It is even more worth warning your parents, grandparents and other seniors close to you to be especially vigilant when using social media.

Remember that reliable and true information about medical services, including access to reimbursed medicines, can be found on the official websites of the National Health Fund and on the NFZ hotline – 800 190 590.

Phishing continues to take its toll. How not to be deceived?

Phishing is a method of fraud that involves impersonating a known person, company, organization or institution. The goal of fraudsters is to gain the trust of a potential victim and force him or her to provide, for example, personal data, account password or credit card number.

Phishing campaigns are massive. Fraudsters send identical e-mails or text messages to thousands of people, hoping that at least a small part of them is waiting for a parcel from an online store or using the bank they are trying to impersonate.

How to protect yourself against phishing? First of all, you should use the Internet wisely. Before we click on a link received by e-mail, SMS or click on a post on a social networking site, it is worth making sure to which website it actually leads. A crafted website is usually embedded in a foreign domain or its address differs from the address of the original bank website or website.

But what if we have inadvertently fallen into the trap of phishing? You should contact your bank immediately and request a block on your account. If we react quickly, there is a chance that we will anticipate the actions of criminals.
