They are simply looking for cheap labor, making us jobless overnight

– say embittered employees quoted by “GW”. They add that until recently, the employer kept them in the belief that despite the client’s resignation, “he would find work for us in other projects.” However, this will not happen.

We asked if there was a chance to work for other Infosys branches, because our work was done remotely anyway, but we were told that there was no such option

– one of the employees tells “GW”.

Employees were to learn about the layoffs during an online meeting. Since there are no trade unions in the company, the employer notified the layoff plan to the Labor Office and began consultations with representatives elected by vote. However, these are only consultations and in no way oblige the company to take specific actions. Infosys employees say this puts them in a losing position from the start. “We can only count on the good will of our employer,” they say.

So far, there is no information about layoffs in other branches of the Infosys group. Employees from Poznań explain that although several projects were also canceled in other branches, this did not translate into job cuts.

“Infosys BPM will cease operations at its center in Poznań for business reasons. All affected employees will receive support in accordance with applicable Polish law,” said the company’s representative, Nithya Ruth Abraham.

They fired 250 people in 10 minutes. Over the Internet

This is not the only large company that has decided to cut jobs in Poland in recent weeks. At the end of February, the global concern Aptiv, which deals with, among others, among others creating software for cars, dismissed 250 employees in the Krakow branch. Due to the mass layoffs, Left politicians reported to the Labor Inspectorate.

According to employees’ reports, on Monday, February 19, at approximately 11.50 they received an invitation to a meeting held via a teleconferencing platform. During this meeting, approximately ten minutes after the start, the employees received e-mails containing notice and at the same time informing about their release from the obligation to work for Aptiv Services Poland SA

– MPs from the Razem party said in a press release. According to them, employees present at the company were given several dozen minutes to pack their things and leave the company’s premises.

There are doubts regarding the company’s compliance with the provisions of the Labor Code, as well as the Act on special rules for terminating employment relationships with employees for reasons not attributable to employees.

– add the MPs.

The IT industry is slowing down dramatically. The cuts affected over 100 companies

The beginning of 2024 was full of information about layoffs in subsequent IT companies. This year’s job cuts are not as drastic as those from the beginning of 2023. According to the website Layoffs.fyi, cited by the newspaper, 34,000 people have lost their jobs in IT since the beginning of January. people.

Both small and large players are being laid off, although in the case of the latter, the topic is more media-related because there are many more laid off. In January, several hundred or several thousand positions were closed, among others: Microsoft, Snap, eBay and PayPal, and in total there are 138 companies laying off employees this year.

One of the reasons for the layoffs is, of course, the development of artificial intelligence. And it’s not about AI taking over the responsibilities of several tens of thousands of employees, but more about companies wanting to adapt to changes by investing in new areas, primarily in generative AI. They slow down in one place to invest more in another. By taking such actions, they also show investors that they continue to focus on cost discipline – explains “FT”, citing analysts’ opinions.
