Poland will soon implement advanced location technology, known as AML, or Advanced Mobile Location, which aims to optimize the response process of emergency services.
AML, emergency calls and location
In short: thanks to AML, it will be possible to precisely determine the place from which the emergency call was made. This is a system that is highly accurate and significantly outperforms traditional location methods, which is often crucial in crisis situations. How does such a system work? “When a person in need of help calls the emergency number (e.g. 112), the AML function automatically activates and sends information about the exact location of the mobile phone to the emergency services we call. Thanks to this, rescuers can quickly reach the scene of the incident, even if the caller does not is able to provide the exact location or does not know the area in which it is located. The location data sent is very precise, locating the device up to 5 meters outdoors and on average 25 meters indoors,” explains the Ministry of Digitization, which is responsible for implementing the new technology in Poland .
Shorter response time of emergency services
AML technology is supported by various operating systems, such as: Android or iOS, and mobile network operators around the world. The European Commission indicates that the implementation of AML can reduce the response time of emergency services by an average of 30 seconds. “On the scale of the population of the European Union, such a shortened intervention time can save 800 people a year in the EU, and on average 67 people in Poland,” says the ministry.
Advance Mobile Location has been implemented in most European Union countries: Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Sweden and Great Britain and partially in Austria (only on devices with Android OS). The EC gives countries time to implement AML until 2027.
