Apple sued for creating a monopoly on iCloud storage
In the US, Apple users accused the corporation of creating a monopoly in the cloud services market. This was reported by Engadget.
The lawsuit was filed March 1 in a Northern California court. According to the plaintiffs, the company created unfair conditions in its ecosystem for the operation of third-party cloud services. The document states that the work of cloud storage with iPhone and iPad is limited, since priority is given to the proprietary iCloud service.
The interests of users are represented by the law firm Hagens Bergman. Lawyers say Apple allows third-party storage to be used with the iPhone, but much information, including app data and settings information, can only be synced using iCloud. The company said consumers either have to give up backup or use iCloud and pay the imposed rates.
Apple has not yet responded to preparations for the trial. Hagens Bergman invited any users to join the lawsuit; representatives of the company estimated the number of victims of Apple’s monopoly at tens of millions of consumers.
In July 2022, the American bank Affinity Credit Union sued Apple for limiting the payment function in the App Store. The company was accused of allowing app purchases and in-app purchases only through the Apple Pay service.
