The first to appear on stage during the 26th Orły 2024 Polish Film Awards gala was the president of the Polish Film Academy, Dariusz Jabłoński. He welcomed those gathered in the hall with significant words. “The Eagles’ Gala is almost as old as the Polish Constitution, but no one has ever broken the Eagles,” he said.

The words clearly aimed at the previous authorities did not end there. “Culture must be supported, but it cannot be bought,” Jabłoński emphasized and thanked Agnieszka Holland, who was present in the room, for the entire work of the director, whose last film “The Green Border” aroused much controversy and even opposition from the then government. Then the president of the Polish Film Academy started joking.
Jabłoński announced that the Academy is considering including a new category in the awards, which the jury would award for the best broadcast from the Sejm. This is an obvious reference to the growing popularity of the conference, thanks to Szymon Hołownia’s replies. The Sejm discussions were even broadcast in Warsaw’s Kinoteka and attracted crowds. “We will evaluate in stars, up to eight stars” – Jabłoński referred to a popular slogan of PiS opponents.

When the president of the Polish Film Academy left the stage, Karolina Korwin Piotrowska and Błażej Hrapkowicz appeared in his place and hosted the gala. “Other presidents should learn from you,” said the film critic at the beginning.
During the Eagles 2024 gala, Paweł Maślony’s “Kos” triumphed. The production was nominated a record number of times and had a chance to win 16 statuettes. The film won, among others, in the categories of best sound, best supporting actress, best make-up and best costumes.
