How do they track us on the Internet? Pegasus is not needed. “We sell our own data”

The guests of “Morning conversation Gazeta.pl” were asked, among others: about how Internet users can be tracked on the Internet, or about how we can protect our data. Experts also informed us what we should be concerned about in the operation of a phone or computer, which could indicate a hack into the system.

Iwona Kutyna asked her interlocutors whether we are actually “eavesdropped” on the Internet and how we can avoid it. – Before we make a purchase, we verify and check what is happening on the Internet. And we develop this philosophy that someone is eavesdropping on us. Then we go after the masses and tape the cameras in the computer (…) Why don’t we tape it in the phone? We have two cameras and a microphone there and we don’t protect them, we keep our phones everywhere, and yet we don’t care about privacy – pointed out – Łukasz Nowatkowski.

Zuzanna Polak, in turn, explained that we often see personalized advertisements online because we agree to them, using, among others, from free social networking sites. – We sell your data for a free service. It is often the case that if we do not pay for the service, we pay with our data. We know that these ads will be there, that someone is using our data, but we don’t know what to do next. We post photos of the area where we live, running routes, the child in front of the school on social media – then it is very easy to target all important information – pointed out the Pole.

During the conversation, experts suggested how we can avoid being tracked on the Internet and having our data obtained. Thanks to this, advertisers will not be able to check our online activity. As it turns out, awareness of potential threats on the Internet is growing, but continuous education in this area is necessary. The topic of the latest technological solutions that help us protect our data was also discussed. Attention was paid to what should worry us about the phone, which may indicate an attempt to hack or take over data. The experts also told us what we need to do when fraud occurs.

– Banking Trojans that we can install on the device will eavesdrop on all transactions and logins to electronic banking. And at the same time, we may lose bank or social media login details, Nowatkowski pointed out.

During the conversation, the subject of procedures used by fraudsters was also discussed. – Attackers are learning, they use social engineering techniques, luring us with e-mails, text messages (…).
