The Information: Apple has created two foldable iPhone prototypes since 2018

Apple continues to actively explore foldable smartphones. This was reported by The Information.

According to media sources, the company has been developing the first foldable iPhone since 2018, although they have not commented on the work on the smartphone. Apple engineers have created at least two prototypes, each of which has a clamshell form factor.

According to data disclosed by insiders, the IT giant recently interacted with manufacturers from Asia to supply components for foldable devices. However, the authors of The Information noted that the company may cancel the project if the quality of the devices does not suit Apple executives.

It is clarified that engineers are developing a smartphone that would be twice as thin as the current iPhone models – so that when folded it will not be too large. Insiders also found out that Apple completed the foldable iPhone project in 2020, but canceled it due to the low quality of the device. Currently, the corporation’s specialists are focused on developing the first folding tablet.

At the beginning of February, The Elec journalists said that Apple would enter the market of gadgets with a folding screen no earlier than 2026. The company will release a tablet that will have a 7-8-inch display.
