Krzysztof Gawkowski announced that he would submit a notification to the prosecutor’s office regarding the purchase tender. – The tender was implemented from October 2022. In mid-August, contractors were selected, but in the meantime there were matters that we should discuss. Everything indicates that criminal regulations were violated during the tender and corruption may have occurred. Therefore, a confidential report will be submitted to the prosecutor’s office regarding the possibility of committing a crime, said the Minister of Digitization during a press conference on Wednesday.

– We have good news for you. Even though there were mistakes and the “Laptop for students” program cannot be continued in this formula, we want it to be healed – said Gawkowski. He added that Finance Minister Andrzej DomaƱski supports such programs, but “they must be done wisely and in accordance with the law.”

– The “Laptop for students” program was one of the great challenges for us. It was controversial from the very beginning, said the Minister of Education, Barbara Nowacka. She recalled that there was a heated discussion about the program in the Sejm, and MPs raised numerous doubts regarding its implementation.

– The PiS government behaved exceptionally disgustingly during the election campaign. They have exploited children and their need to access technology for their exclusive purposes. They treated him like an election sausage. They handed them out without preparing a real strategy. The laptops were not protected against misuse and exposed children to cyber threats, said the minister.

Already on Monday, the Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski, explained that the future of the “Laptop for students” program remains very uncertain. As he said, not only was no money received from the European Union for the program because the EU expenditure from 2023 was questioned, but also the funds were not secured in the budget.

The Minister of Digitization accused the previous Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, of errors in running and financing the program last year. The politician noted on tvn24.pl that “there was no money, it was spent on credit, it is not known what happened to it or how it was used.” He also added that the previous authorities left a huge mess in financing the project.
