IDC: Tablet shipments hit record low since 2011
Global tablet shipments have collapsed. This was reported in a report by IDC.
Experts estimate that global tablet shipments in the fourth quarter of 2023 fell 17.4 percent year-over-year to 36.8 million units. This is the largest decline since the fourth quarter of 2016. For the full year 2023, sales totaled 128.5 million units, reaching a record low since 2011.
The material states that without any improvements in the global economy, purchasing tablets is not a priority for consumers. “There is expected to be some room for market recovery in 2024, provided the year is more economically resilient,” said IDC analyst Anurupa Nataraj.
Apple remained the leader in the tablet market, with a 40.6 percent share in the fourth quarter of 2023. Samsung and Huawei took second and third places – 19.8 and 7.6 percent, respectively. Lenovo and Xiaomi also made it into the top 5.
In early February, analysts from Canalys predicted a recovery in the global smartphone market. Experts named the markets of developing countries as the main factor in the recovery.
