The Elec: Apple will introduce a foldable tablet no earlier than 2026
Apple will enter the folding screen gadget market no earlier than 2026. This was reported by the Korean publication The Elec.
According to journalists, the company is considering the possibility of releasing its first folding device. It should be a tablet that will replace the iPad mini. The device will have a 7-8 inch display. For comparison, the current iPad mini has an 8.3-inch screen. Insiders also revealed the release date of the device – it will appear in 2026 or 2027.
The future device will have a flexible front panel based on OLED. It is reported that the partners of the American corporation – Samsung Display and LG Display – have already sent Apple the first samples of flexible 7- and 8-inch screens. Most likely, Samsung will be the main supplier of parts.
Currently, Apple and Samsung are at odds over how a foldable display should be designed. Representatives of the companies are discussing how to get a screen that will retain its strength and other qualities for many years.
In addition to the compact tablet, Apple is working on a 20.5-inch foldable device. The production of a foldable iPhone is not discussed.
At the end of January, it became known that Samsung planned to release an affordable foldable smartphone in 2024. The device will be an inexpensive version of the Galaxy Z Fold smartphone-tablet.
