ArsTechnica: Apple recognized the MacBook Pro 2012 with a disk drive as an obsolete device
Apple has placed the 2012 MacBook Pro laptop on its obsolete list. This was reported by ArsTechnica.
Media journalists noted that the 13-inch MacBook Pro is notable for being the brand’s last laptop to have an optical drive for reading and writing CDs and DVDs. In subsequent generations, Apple abandoned this element of the computer.
Products are considered obsolete if at least seven years have passed since the date of discontinuation of their sales. From now on, the company’s specialists will not provide technical support to device owners. Apple stopped selling the 2012 MacBook Pro in October 2016.
According to journalists, despite abandoning the disk drive in computers, Apple continues to sell an external SuperDrive that can read and write DVDs. However, the device has not been updated for a long time. Also, it cannot be connected to modern brand computers without an adapter.
In December 2023, Apple placed the original iPhone SE smartphone on the list of obsolete devices. The device was introduced in 2016 as an affordable alternative to expensive phones.
