“Poland among the 10 richest countries in the world.” AI Expert: A once in 120 year chance

– Poland has a chance to become one of the 10 richest countries in the world – says Miron Mironiuk, head of the newly established team for AI development in Poland. The expert was a guest of Iwona Kutyna in the latest edition of the “Studio Biznes” program on Next.gazeta.pl.

Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski, who will create recommendations for the use of artificial intelligence to improve specific areas of state activities. The head of the team, as well as its initiator, is Miron Mironiuk, creator and president of Cosmose AI and the originator of the project for teaching programming in grades 4-6 called “Programming = our second language”.

AI expert: This opportunity comes once in 120 years

According to Mironiuk, Poland has a chance to become one of the 10 richest countries in the world. Why? – Because 120 years ago, during the Second Industrial Revolution, the United States used modern technologies: electricity, combustion engines, radio waves, and overtook Great Britain as the richest country in the world. Back then, free Poland could not take advantage of it because it did not exist. And today, not only can we take advantage of it, but we can do it well because we have the best programmers in the world – says Miron Mironiuk.

The question remains: do we have the financial resources to develop areas related to artificial intelligence? – This is a situation where we are an “oil” power. We’re sitting on this oil, but until yesterday we didn’t do anything about it. We have other countries that are sucking our oil, sucking out our best engineers, but yesterday that changed. The first spade has been inserted to start digging our oil, i.e. artificial intelligence, he said. – We are entering the treadmill at a time when some countries are two laps ahead of us and now we have to do everything to catch up with them – added Adrian Hołota, the originator of Trendbook, which describes marketing trends.

Iwona Kutyna’s guests also talked about ethics and the fact that the area of artificial intelligence should be regulated legally. For example, who has the rights to a black and white photo of a woman that was generated by AI. It was about the photo “Pseudomnesia. The Electrician”, which won in the Creativity / Open category in the prestigious Sony World Photography Award photography competition. In this context, Miron Mironiuk recalled another photo that was taken on the occasion of the establishment of the PL/AI advisory team. Its members decided to recreate the now iconic photo from the “IT specialists’ party”.

Members of the team for the development of AI in Poland established at the Ministry of Digital Affairs Photo Szymon Szcześniak/press materials

– A given company that has a program for creating such photos uses a specific photo database to train such a model. What is important is that every photo that is in this database should be there legally. So the creator of such a photo should be paid for it. However, the fact that another photo is created from such a photo is something completely new, said Mironiuk.

The government has established a PL/AI advisory team

In addition to Miron Mironiuk, the government advisory team includes Agnieszka Mikołajczyk Bareła, Kamila Staryga, Marek Cygan, Tomasz Czajka, Karol Kurach and Łukasz Kidzinski. The artificial intelligence team will assist the government in areas such as: health, education and safety.

– Poland has been a victim of cyberattacks in recent years, such as the leak of 50,000 PESEL numbers in 2023, for which the hackers demanded a ransom. Artificial intelligence in the wrong hands will increase the frequency and severity of these attacks. The state must be prepared for this. It is particularly important to ensure children’s safety on the Internet and protect them from the negative impact of artificial intelligence – said Tomasz Czajka on Monday during the presentation of the PL/AI group.
