Hi-Tech Mail.ru: OnePlus 12 purchased in China did not work in Russia

Russian users of OnePlus smartphones spoke about a problem with the operation of their devices. This was reported by Hi-Tech Mail.ru.

According to journalists, OnePlus smartphones purchased in China have stopped working in Russia. In particular, the SIM card on the phones was blocked, which made it impossible to make voice calls and use the mobile Internet on the devices. OnePlus is a smartphone brand, a separate division of the Chinese company Oppo, which in turn belongs to BBK Electronics Corporation.

The blocking of devices intended for the Chinese market was confirmed by journalists from the publication GizmoChina. “It appears that region locking has been enabled on Chinese OnePlus 12 devices after the global version of the smartphone became available earlier this month,” the authors noted.

According to experts at GizmoChina, the regional lockdown is creating problems for people living outside of China. The latter purchased the Chinese version of the OnePlus device, as it is noticeably cheaper than the global version. “The unlock code can be obtained by contacting OnePlus support. However, it is unclear whether the support service will be ready to help you,” the journalists emphasized.

In December, it became known that Sony began massively blocking the accounts of users of PlayStation consoles and services around the world. The corporation later stated that an error had occurred.
