Engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (better known as MIT) are building a hydrogen-powered electric motorcycleusing a fuel cell system, as a testing ground for a new hydrogen-based means of transport.

The motorcycle successfully performed its first full track demonstration in October and MIT has now released a video of the test.

It is designed as an open source platform that allows for the interchange and testing of a variety of different components.and let others try their own versions based on the plans the team makes available for free online.

Team members say that while battery-powered cars are a boon to the environment, continue to face scope limitations and issues related to lithium mining and resulting emissionsdetails Europe Press.

The team was therefore interested in exploring hydrogen vehicles as a clean alternative, allowing for vehicles that can be charged quickly, just like petrol vehicles.

Unlike previous projects by the team, which has been part of MIT since 2005, This vehicle will not participate in races or competitions, but will be presented at various conferences.

“We hope to use this project as an opportunity to start conversations about systems of ‘small hydrogen“That could increase demand, which could lead to the development of more infrastructure,” Aditya Mehrotra, a mechanical engineering student leading the project on MIT’s Electric Vehicle Team, said in a statement.
