The changes to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) continue to evolve with the hope that they will result in benefits for applicants.

This time, on Friday, January 26, 2024, they announced that the payment process for submitting applications in person is changing.

The change means most applicants and petitioners, their attorneys and authorized representatives will have to pay for certain benefit application forms by mail or remotely instead of doing so in person at a local office, they said on their website.

Benefits of change

Under the new process, applicants can send a check or Form G-1450, Authorization for Credit Card Transactions, to the local office with their benefit application.

By eliminating the need for an office appointment, this new process should save time and money for every applicant who has to pay these fees.

Similarly, attorneys and accredited representatives can now process payments for EOIR-29, a notice of appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals regarding a decision by a DHS official, via a link in the email or text message from the Uscis Contact Center.

Once such payment has been processed, attorneys and accredited representatives must email their client’s EOIR-29; the EOIR-2; your EOIR-27, notice of appearance as an attorney or representative before the Board of Immigration Appeals, and your Pay.gov receipt to the local office.

What do they ask of the applicant?

Applicants and petitioners, their attorneys and accredited representatives should read the filing instructions carefully to ensure that their benefit application form can be submitted by mail or remotely and that it is kept in the correct location.

USCIS emphasizes that they will return any incorrect application to the applicant, “who must then resubmit it to the appropriate office.”
